Ilyena left home with her nine-month-old son and her husband on 4th March 2022. They were hiding in a metro station and when it was no longer safe, they wanted to move to Poland by train. They reached the border after six days of driving.

One car, two days, four women. Nina, her daughter, mother and mother-in-law fled Kiev for the western Ukrainian town of Drohobych. "Their boys" stayed in the capital. They want to defend it so the family has somewhere to return to.

Zlata was about to start a new job in a production company in Kiev but it has been postponed indefinitely. The war put an end to her plans. She managed to escape Ukraine and is now looking for a job in Poland. She hopes to make a living as a photographer, but would be happy for any job. She wants to financially support her family, who have remained in Ukraine and are hiding from the attacks.

Ljubov Vladimirovna has seen a lot in her life - and yet she did not believe she would ever see war again. Together with eight other people, she had to flee shelled Kyiv in a hurry, finding temporary shelter in Lviv in the west of the country. Now they are considering what to do next.

Her husband is in the war, her parents are in war-torn Kharkiv. Yet Lyuba does not give up

Ukraine's second-largest city - Kharkiv, a city of 1.5 million - has been the centre of fierce fighting and massive bombardment since the Russian invasion has begun. That is why forty-year-old Lyuba fled to Drohobych with her four-year-old son Bogdan. Luyba had to leave her husband behind as he is enlisted in the army, and their parents, who are too old to move and do not want to leave their hometown. Lyuba has not seen her parents or her husband for several weeks. Still, she believes that they will all be reunited soon.
