Caring for resilience. Caritas Czech Republic helped to set up a Mental Health Centre in Lviv region

Over 70% of Ukrainians officially need psychological care because of the war. In 2025, Caritas Czech Republic joined a nationwide mental health programme in four regions of the country. We are helping to set up Mental Health Centres at hospitals, to provide children and adults with free and high-quality psychological care. On September 10, one of the centres launched in Novoyavorivsk, Lviv region.

After a year of joint hard work, on 28 July in the city of Berehovо in Zakarpattia, we officially opened a new settlement for the evacuated people with infrastructure for their integration into the local community. Currently, 100 residents from Donetsk, Dnipro and Kherson regions have already settled here. This project is the most significant for Caritas Czech Republic in Ukraine, uniting the efforts of the authorities, partner charities, and businesses.

Victoria and Yevgeniy are a couple from frontline Kharkiv, which has been under massive attack since the first days of the full-scale invasion. The family moved to Transcarpathia to save their minor children. Thanks to the assistance provided by Caritas Czech Republic, the large family was able to restore their income and gain professional development.

Isabela is a future nurse and Alina is a future interpreter. They live together in a dormitory at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian University in Ivano-Frankivsk. To support them on their way to making their dreams come true, the Caritas Czech Republic team renovated and refurbished the student accommodation so that Alina and Isabela could feel confident and comfortable.

Hundreds of mangled windows, doors, and roofs, patched up with foil and blankets, are like war wounds on the fates of Ukrainian families holding onto their homes near the frontline. Thanks to you, we finally sleep in warmth and eat breakfast without outerwear,“ says Hryhorij from the Lozuvatka village in the Dnipro region. His family was one of the most vulnerable households supported by Caritas Czech Republic to repair their shell-damaged homes.
