We are sending a power generator able supply electricity for an entire hospital

In cooperation with Czech Railways and he Czech Railway Cargo we sent a train with humanitarian aid to Ukraine this past Monday. A total of 84 power generators, backup electricity supply, and bottled water for people who have had to flee their homes. Our partner Caritas Ukraine will distribute the aid to those in need.

Caritas organizations across Europe joined forces to help people affected by war

We started helping on the border with Ukraine immediately after the Russian attack. Since the start of the conflict, Caritas Czech Republic has raised over CZK 101 million (4 million EUR), sent three trucks with humanitarian aid to the most affected areas and is also helping refugees in the Czech Republic. We are able to meet the needs of people in Ukraine, on the run and in the target countries thanks to the joint efforts of the entire Caritas network.

More aid is heading to Ukraine - Caritas sending a truck with power generators

The situation in the border town of Tiachiv in south-western Ukraine is tense. Thousands of refugees are arriving here every day, trying to escape the war. For the local Caritas Tiachiv, a partner of the Ostrava-Opava Diocesan Caritas, the situation is becoming unmanageable. There is a lack of medical supplies, hygiene items and electricity access. That is why another truck from the Caritas Czech Republic is heading there.

How is Caritas supporting refugees and internally displaced people in Ukraine?

Inside Ukraine, the number of internally displaced people is growing dramatically, following the number of refugees that crossed the borders. There are millions of people in need and local Caritas offices are providing direct emergency aid to them. We will continue to provide humanitarian aid to the people affected by the war, both refugees and internally displaced people.

Caritas sending humanitarian aid trucks to Ukraine

On Thursday, 3 March 2022, the Caritas Czech Republic dispatched two trucks for the Mariupol Caritas which operates in Ukraine and provides basic needs for thousands of displaced people that have left their homes due to the ongoing conflict. The trucks are loaded mainly with hygiene items and food supplies, including complementary baby food. They are heading to Zaporzhye in south-eastern Ukraine. The Caritas Mariupol is a long-standing partner of the Ostrava-Opava Diocesan Caritas.
