6 ways Caritas Czech Republic supports refugees to become self-sufficient

There are currently more than 122 million displaced people in the world. Whether they have fled abroad or stayed in their countries, they are trying to start again from zero in new places. Refugees, despite many prejudices, do not wait with their hand out for help, but instead want to work, study and stand on their own two feet. But they need support at the beginning to succeed. Caritas Czech Republic is helping them to do just that.

Nataliia Storgalova from Kharkiv was forced to leave her hometown on the very first day of the war, February 24, 2022. She grabbed her children and drove away from the Russian border, eventually finding herself in the safer city of Uzhhorod in western Ukraine. Caritas Czech Republic will help reconstruct a new collective centre for internally displaced people in Berehove, Ukraine

As the war in Ukraine progresses, the need for accommodation for internally displaced people  in relatively safe western part of the country remains crucial. Many displaced individuals can not resolve their housing situation because of lacking money or free place. In the Zakarpattia region alone, over 170,000 displaced people are officially registered. To assist these people, Caritas Czech Republic is participating in the establishment of new housing for 180 displaced persons in Transcarpathia.
