A 70-year-old seamstress from Kyiv: We were living in freedom for 30 years, no one can understand it

Ljubov Vladimirovna has seen a lot in her life - and yet she did not believe she would ever see war again. Together with eight other people, she had to flee shelled Kyiv in a hurry, finding temporary shelter in Lviv in the west of the country. Now they are considering what to do next.

Western Ukraine now: Caritas is helping people who have been forced to leave their homes

Ivano-Frankivsk is by Ukrainian standards a small city in the west of the country. Until recently, it had a population of around 230,000. Today it has officially 64 000 more, but the number could be three times higher. People from all over the country are fleeing to the west of Ukraine in large numbers. Caritas is helping people on the run who have taken refuge in western Ukraine and provides them with a roof over their heads, basic needs and psychological help.

Ukraine's second-largest city - Kharkiv, a city of 1.5 million - has been the centre of fierce fighting and massive bombardment since the Russian invasion has begun. That is why forty-year-old Lyuba fled to Drohobych with her four-year-old son Bogdan. Luyba had to leave her husband behind as he is enlisted in the army, and their parents, who are too old to move and do not want to leave their hometown. Lyuba has not seen her parents or her husband for several weeks. Still, she believes that they will all be reunited soon.

Incubators sent by Caritas will help in Ukraine

The fifth shipment of humanitarian aid sent by Caritas Czech Republic has arrived in Ukraine. The truck brought food, hygiene supplies, blankets, first aid kits and two incubators to Zaporizhzhia. The war in Ukraine has displaced one in four people from their homes. Millions need help secure their basic needs, such as shelter, food and health care.

Refugee's story: Victoria and her children travelled for 15 hours on a train without food or drink

Victoria fled with her children from the Ukrainian town of Cherkasy. They travelled to safety for almost a day and a half without having anything to drink or eat. When they finally arrived in Poland, they did not know where to go. They were in a completely new place. Fortunately, a Caritas worker helped them. Read the whole story.
