The war in Ukraine has been going on for a year. During this time, millions of people have lost their homes, their ability to provide for their families, and their normal, decent life. From the first day of the war, Caritas Czech Republic has been helping Ukrainians who are suffering because of Russian aggression.

A year of our help to Ukraine: How does Caritas Czech Republic support people affected by Russian aggression?

On the 24th of February, we will mark the sad anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ever since then, the war has displaced more than 15 million people from their homes. Caritas Czech Republic has been helping from the very beginning.  Initially, we focused on the most urgent needs, such as delivering humanitarian aid and helping refugees. Thanks to the generosity of our donors who have contributed to the Caritas for Ukraine collection, we can help war-affected people.

Caritas for Turkey and Syria: We have launched appeal to help people affected by catastrophic earthquake

A catastrophic earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck south-eastern Turkey and Syria in the early hours of Monday 6th February. Caritas Czech Republic immediately launched an appeal to help the affected people. Thousands of people have already lost their lives and thousands are injured. Just before noon, another 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck south-eastern Turkey. People on the ground need immediate humanitarian aid. Caritas partners are already helping on the ground.

The war in Ukraine has been going on for a year. A year of terror, destruction, people fleeing their homes and destinies turned upside down. Caritas Czech Republic has been supporting Ukrainian refugees in Moldova since the beginning of the conflict. Svita Andrusyk from Kirovohrad took refuge in Gagauzia, Moldova, and is grateful that thanks to our support she can provide a dignified life for her three daughters.

Caritas Czech Republic built modular houses in Transcarpathia for people who fled the war

5,9 million people are still displaced within Ukraine. Many of them found shelter in the Transcarpathian region, but not all of them have dignified living conditions, staying in overcrowded dormitories or gyms. Last year, Caritas Czech Republic together with the Transcarpathian Regional Council and the Mukachevo Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church started building modular houses for people who were forced to flee their homes and found safety in the Transcarpathian region.
