A modern mental health centre for children and teenagers will be set up in Lviv with the support of Caritas Czech Republic. The agreement was signed by Natalia Matskova, Director of Caritas Czech Republic in Ukraine; Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration; and Bohdan Malovany, Head of the Clinical Centre for Paediatric Medicine.
The Clinical Centre for Paediatric Medicine in Lviv has been helping children and youths overcome the effects of psychological trauma for 18 years. The new Mental Health Centre, based at the institution, will significantly enhance mental health services, namely
- will expand children’s access to professional psychological, psychotherapeutic, and psychiatric care;
- will provide comfortable working conditions for a multidisciplinary team;
- will facilitate the implementation of modern European approaches to supporting children and their families.
Caritas Czech Republic is funding the major refurbishment of the hospital premises, partner organisation MH4U is providing the centre’s furnishings, equipment, and the refurbishment of two premises, whilst the Lviv Regional State Administration will assist with the groundwork. Completion of the refurbishment and fitting-out is scheduled for the end of the year.
Caritas Czech Republic is implementing a project in western Ukraine to empower community mental health through local civil society organisations. In addition to the renovation of the Mental Health Centre in Lviv, we are providing civil society organisations in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Zakarpattia regions with expert support and grants of up to 1.3 million hryvnias for mental health projects.
